Food to Lower Cholesterol Naturally

White Chia Seed

Does Chia have a better ratio of omegas then fish oil and if digest easier then fish oil. Do you know?

Answer: The best alternative of omega‚Äôs is Chia seed because it does not have the toxins and chemicals that are found in many fish oils such as PCB, Dioxin, DDT and several others.

Chia seed has a comparable omega profile then fish oil with minor differences in  omega 6 and 9 depending on the grad. However, more importantly is easily digested and much more bio-available then fish oil because it is a vegan food. Remember, it is always better to consume a whole food before choosing the oil that is extracted from the food through manufacturing processes.

Because in most cases, it is not extracted properly and with high heat. Personally I will always choose the olive over olive oil or the coconut over coconut oil or Salmon over the salmon oil. The oils are always my second alternative.

 Hope this helps

Mary Clarke Ph.D. of nutritional at Kansas State University in a special report, "Eating Fat, Then and Now",  writes that  the ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 up until this century had been one to one. Citing a study, " Dietary Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Depression," by Hibbeln and Salem, in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 62 (1): 1-9 July 1995 she writes: When margarines made from vegetable oils became popular, this ration changed so that omega-6s now far outnumber omega 3s by rations from 10 to 1 to as high as 25 to 1. Accumulating evidence suggest that this change is an important factor in our high incidence of coronary heart disease and some other chronic diseases.

Chia seeds contain a near 3 to 2 ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 which compares favorably with 10 to 1 through 25 to 1 ratios making it easier to lower cholesterol.
