Acai Berry powder has antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and omega fatty acids. All present in this berry and, in my opinion, the three most important factors in our diet
Acai berries are loaded with antioxidants. This, for me, is by far the most important benefit of the berry, and my reasons are very simple: The last ten years, we have put lots of time, energy, and money into the research of antioxidants and ORAC values. (ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and itís a measure of the antioxidant power in a given food or product.) Antioxidants are very important in scavenging free radicals from our bodies and keeping us healthy, young, and vibrant. The ORAC value of Acai berries is higher then the Goji berry, cranberry, and the blueberry, and I like the fact that the freeze-dried powder version is also very high in antioxidants. I always prefer consuming the real food before it is processed into a powder, so it was good to see that much of the nutrients were captured in the freeze-drying process. Make sure you find a good reliable source when purchasing your powder.
Reason 2 Vitamins and Minerals
Because of its rich content of anthocyanin pigments that give it the deep purple color, Acai berries contain a very complete array of vitamins and minerals that benefit the human body. Acai contains all B vitamins, such as Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), and Vitamin B3 (Niacin). In addition, the berry is high in Vitamin C, Vitamin E (tocopherol), and contains ample amounts of minerals including potassium, phosphorus, iron, and bone-building calcium.
Why are vitamins and minerals so crucial to the human body? It is quite simple; vitamins and minerals, which are also referred to as micronutrients, are needed in small amounts in our bodies to support chemical reactions of our cells, nerves, and muscles, so we can function properly and live. In simple terms, vitamins and minerals keep our cells alive. Different nutrients affect digestion, the nervous system, circulatory system, our brain, and many other body processes. This is one of the reasons I love juicing in the morning and adding rich-colored berries - because they are chock full of vitamins and minerals. Add some Acai powder to your juice, and you have yourself a powerhouse vitamin/mineral drink.
Reason 3 Omega Fatty Acids
Most of us know, at this point, that omega fatty acids are very important to include in our diets. There are many reasons, such as they support healthy skin and hair, and have many anti-inflammatory properties. However, the one benefit we are hearing mostly is that it breaks down bad cholesterol in the body, raising the good cholesterol, HDL, and protects us from heart disease. This is all true, and we need small balanced amounts to ensure good health. Acai berry has a similar omega fatty acid profile as olive oil. It is mostly omega-9, with a good amount of omega-6 essential fatty acids. It only has trace amounts of omega-3. Although we need to get more omega 3 fatty acids from other sources, such as Chia seeds, or salmon, Acai berry does very nicely in this category.
